Our station in the mildest corner of Armenia
The fifth station in our series stands in the far north-east of Armenia, in Tavush, near the village of Deghdzavan. Of all our stations, it has the mildest natural conditions: warm summers, soft winters and hills covered with shrubs, orchards and vineyards. The little yellow building sits on a low rise at the foot of the hills, as if it were part of the landscape.

The village of peaches
Deghdzavan means “village of peaches” in Armenian. It is a young village, founded in 1973 in the Noyemberyan area, and today it is home to about 300 people. It is a beautiful and well-kept village, and its gardens show how gentle the climate is here: besides peaches and apples, pomegranates and very tasty figs ripen here, and even olives grow, which is a rare sight in Armenia.

The station
Deghdzavan is a complex station of the CHARNET network: seismometers in the instrument building, a GNSS antenna on a white pillar, solar panels and a satellite dish. It is the northernmost station of our network and watches the Tavush region and the border areas with Georgia and Azerbaijan.
