The Armenian–Chinese data centre in Gyumri has been running for more than five months and has recorded over 100 earthquakes, including events in the Congo, China, Japan and Tajikistan. Data reach Gyumri over satellite and 4G links, the first use of satellite communication in Armenian seismology, and artificial intelligence helps process them.
Director Jon Karapetyan recalled a historical link: in 1959 Beijing ordered 20 multi-pendulum seismometers designed by Armen Nazarov. The partners now plan joint work on seismic hazard and risk assessment for building codes.
